Have a Closer Look at Your Electricity Bill

This may be the last thing on your mind, but you need to have a closer look at your electricity bill(compare your energy bill). I know that you see a new one every month, or at least every 3 months. I am only asking you to pay a little more attention. Why you ask? I will tell you why it’s important for you to be comfortable with this idea. An easy way to save money on your bills is that some retailers offer pay on time discounts. Don’t believe me just look at your bill and you will see the banner (mostly on the bottom right hand corner) clearly telling you how to be a good customer and receive your reward, and if this information isn’t there, you should be looking at companies that reward you. Surprised, may be not… So here’s another tip. Do you know your service address and do you know why it’s important to know it? The service address is the address where your meter is located; you need to keep a regular check on it, just to see that it is in proper working order. Because you may be getting an “estimated bill”, a bill not based upon the actual reading of your meter. Just glance at the bottom of the pricing calculation on your bill. It is estimated according to your energy consumption pattern and may be higher that the actual when there is a change in consumption patterns. Your life is all about you and I hope that you will be paying close attention to your bills from now on. But I would also like to bring a very important point to your consideration. What you will not find on your bill is the sources of your electricity. In Europe and America the energy companies are obliged to show all the sources like hydro, coal, nuclear, wind, solar and biomass; but in Australia we do not have any such requirements on our energy companies. It’s too bad that we do not get to see how our consumption is affecting the environment. As we are unaware of the sources of energy, especially we have no knowledge of the fact that how much of this energy is produced from renewable sources of energy like solar and wind. It’s our right to know these facts, as it is not only important for our environment but also good for our economy. With more and more renewable energy our energy cost will decrease which is good for every one. So I think it’s not a bad idea to have a closer look at our bills now.
